It allowed me to decide what I wanted to create. I didn't have a lot of guidelines other than the topic or medium. I think this is good because it allows the artist to create what THEY want to create, and not what the teacher wants them to create. The open art room concept allows the students thoughts and emotions to be put into the work. When you get to create what you want in art class, it makes it more enjoyable. If you aren't creating what you want, it won't be as enjoyable.

Choose a place or artwork where the subject matter reflects you as an artist. One that you have a personal connection to. Please explain. I chose the piece that I did in towards the beginning of the semester. It is the man in the suit with the camera as his face. I have a personal connection to it because I take a lot of pictures. I also use Instagram a lot. The man in the picture could be me because I'm always seeing things from the perspective of a camera lense.

Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. The project I chose was the print making project. The subject I chose was the Instagram logo because it's one of my favorite apps. When I first started the project, I knew I wanted to do the logo, but I didn't want it to be the same colors as the original. I just wanted to the shape you to be recognizable. It is on display in the Musuem of Fine Arts in Boston and the background was never completed. The categorie of art it falls in is American Neoclassicism. Neoclassicism became the style mostly due to Thomas Jefferson.
My drawing relates to the theme "two in one" because it is a man in a suit, but his head is replaced with a camera. The camera lens acts as his eyes and his chin would be the bottom part that pops out a little bit.

The medium I chose was graphite pencil. I chose this because I like the way it looks the best out of all the options we had. When your using a pen, you can't smooth the shading, but as for pencil you can. This medium is also the easiest for me to work with. I had a difficult time trying charcoal, and it was just too messy.

One thing I've had trouble with is making everything proportioned right and shaped correctly. Also I had a little trouble doing the camera because it has so many details.

Completed

I think my piece was pretty successful. The area I'm most proud of is the camera because it was by far the hardest to draw; there was so much detail.

One thing I would go back and change would be the hat because I don't think I did the best I could drawing it, but I'm still happy with the whole project.
